The Military Working Mom

Expectations vs Reality of Deploying Before 12 Months Postpartum (Featuring Lindsie Sooter)

Episode Summary

Career vs Family can always be a tricky one, especially if you had a goal in mind before you even started a family! Lindsie knew she wanted to deploy with her crew before she had her son; she prepped herself, even took a short 2 week trip out to sea to get use to being gone. But when time came to set sail, she realized she was not prepared for the reality of the tour ahead of her.

Episode Notes

After chatting with Lindsie about her deployment experience postpartum I had so many different perspectives that I didn't expect to have. I had no idea the Navy enforces a message to family plan around sea and shore tours! She also enlightened me on how open Sailors must be with their commanders in their family planning process, mental health, and future intentions. These two items were just the cherry on the cake too! Listen in to hear her full story of how she volunteered to deploy within her 12 month postpartum window, how she prepped herself, and how her experience actually went.
